Tokyo: Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo (17 Jun 2019)

Must-go place for coffee aficionados. Not the normal Starbucks outlet. Opened in Feb 2019, this is Starbucks’ largest store in the world and its fifth Reserve Roastery.  The other roasteries are in Milan, New York, Seattle and Shanghai. Good to go early.  We reached the place before 11am on a Monday.  Shortly after, the crowd built up and those who came later were required to take a queue and wait to go in.  Access from Shibuya given at the end of this post.

The world's largest Starbucks Roastery coffee cask - a 17m-tall vessel made of copper where coffee beans are left to rest after the roasting process. The cask was made using the Japanese tsuchime technique which explains its texture.

From raw beans to a complete roast.  You can seat by the counter, enjoy your cup of coffee and watch the entire roasting process from raw beans to complete roast.

The outlet also features the coffee chain’s largest Teavana tea bar.

Outdoor seatings on the 3rd and 4th storey. As the building is located next to the Meguro River lined with sakura trees, it offers awesome views during the cherry blossom season.

This is modelled after the traditional Komodaru sake barrel used in celebratory events.

Access from Shibuya
I chose to go by bus from Shibuya.  The bus schedule is appended below. Take the bus from Shibuya West Terminal 33.  It is just 4 stops away and take less than 10 min.  Alight at Sugekarishogakko bus stop, turn left at the first junction and you'll see the building. Less than 1 min walk from the bus stop.

I returned to Shibuya via train from Nakameguro station.  The station is a pleasant 5-10 min walk along the Meguro River.
